Tap the floor before you call anyone
Delamination is the term for thin surface layers, around an eighth to a quarter inch, separating from a troweled slab. The tap test tells you if you have it, because hollow means the layer has let go. If you hear it, tell the contractor before they quote. Patching over a layer that has already let go does not hold.

Walk the whole floor with a hammer or a steel rod and chalk the hollow patches. You will end up with a map of the problem, and the contractor will see its size at a glance.

A finish problem is not a salt problem
Concrete can peel without any freezing at all. The usual culprit is steel troweling started too early, while water is still rising to the surface. Broom-finished concrete is considered good enough for most outdoor slabs, and a hard-troweled floor is not always the better one.
So ask which finish the contractor plans, when it will happen and how the slab will be cured. A repair that blames salt for a finishing error will fail again, and you will have paid for the same problem twice.
If the contractor cannot say what the earlier failure was, ask them to look at the underside of a peeled piece. A clean, flat break tells a different story from a ragged one.

Curing matters as much as finishing. The usual guidance is to start it right after the finish and keep it going for 3 to 7 days. Ask how that will be done in a garage, and whether you will be asked to keep cars off the floor in the meantime. A floor that is driven on too soon can lose the surface it has just been given.
