Patch, overlay or tear-out: what flaking points to on a Cicero drive
A driveway poured around 1980, the typical Cicero build year, has been through a few decades of freezing and salt. Surface scaling has a short list of causes: too little entrained air, low strength, a wrong mix, heavy de-icer on young concrete, poor finishing or too little curing. What the Brewerton and Cicero housing mix means for an old drive
The town's median house went up in 1980, and Brewerton's in 1983. If your house sits in that range, your driveway has likely been salted for thirty or forty winters. Nobody may have kept a record of which mix went into it.
Tell the contractor the year the house went up and whether the drive was ever redone. A repair that looks fine in June can scale again by March if the mix underneath was never right. Ask what they will check, and ask them to put the answer on paper.
